Meet our Governors

Mr Brown

Chair of Governors and Parent Governor

I am a parent governor, joining in January 2022. I was elected Chair of Governors in January 2023.

My wife and I moved out of London to Maidenbower soon after our son was born. He is currently in Year 1. We are both teachers and are continually impressed by all aspects of his schooling. From the enthusiastic and caring teaching staff to the wonderful breakfast and after school provision.

I was born in New Zealand and moved to the UK over 20 years ago. I am part of the senior leadership team in a small independent all-girls school in London. Being a small school, I have been lucky enough to be involved in most aspects of its management. Hopefully the experience I have gained will be of benefit to the Brook.

Mr Burdett Dixon

Vice Chair of Governors and Co-opted Governor

I am a co-opted Governor, having joined in February 2020. My eldest child has been through the school and my youngest is currently in Year One.

Brook Infant School has been amazing for my Son, and I want to do all I can to support the children and staff, and take involvement in the way the school is run.

I am a solicitor practising in property disputes at a Surrey law firm, TWM Solicitors LLP. Much of my work involves problem solving, which I hope may come in helpful in assisting the Board.

Mrs Cox

Headteacher and Staff Governor

I am Mrs Cox and I am Headteacher Governor. I become a governor when I joined the school in September 2019 as Headteacher.

I have been in education for many years, training many years ago in Early Years and I have come to Brook Infant School and Nursery having previously been a Headteacher and most recently an educational consultant. In my consultancy role, I had the privilege of spending time in hundreds of different schools and worked with leadership teams to develop and improve schools in a way that focused on the children. Throughout my career, I have been and continue to be passionate about child centred education and have a deep understanding of how children learn.

I am proud of our school as it truly is a place where children learn with love and laughter. Creativity oozes out of every part of the school and from day one I have felt like I belong.

On top of being a Headteacher, I am a mother to two gorgeous boys and can be found on many occasion watching them play cricket.

Miss Witham

Staff Governor

I am a Staff Governor who joined the Governing Body in January 2017.

I have been a teacher at Brook Infant School since qualifying in 2011. Brook Infants is such a wonderful school where everyday really is full of ‘love and laughter’. Whilst changes to the curriculum in recent years have bought new challenges for teachers, I am committed to ensuring that we never lose the creativity which flows through our veins.

Mr Fernyhough

Parent Governor

I am a Parent Governor having joined the Governing body in July 2022.

I have two boys, one of whom has passed through Brook Infant School with the other just about to start Year 1. I feel this school offers a fantastic experience for the children and is a wonderful way to start their learning journey. I want to do all I can to help and support them.

Professionally I am the Managing Director of a Wealth Management firm called FACET Investment Management Ltd. Working in such a highly regulated role, I hope to bring my knowledge and experience of corporate governance to assist the Governing body with their role at the school.

Mr James

Parent Governor

I am a Parent Governor having joined the Governing body in March 2024.

My son attends Brook Infant School in Year 1 –“ learning through love and laughter” - and my wife works as part of the Reception Team. The Brook offers a fantastic experience for the children and is a wonderful way for them to start their learning journey and as a parent governor I want to help and support them and the Team that makes that possible every day.

I’ve spent many years as a Voluntary Youth Leader in Crawley, been part of Youth and Community Committees before and have acted as the Secretary to the Friends of the Brook PTA, helping with the fund raising to support the school. Professionally I am a qualified Project Manager and am now a Programme Manager and Business Lead in the Civil Service, having previously been in the private sector as the Head of Business for Heathrow’s Property business and other governance and development roles, delivering a wide range of different buildings and facilities. I hope to be able to use my knowledge and experience to work with the Head, the Staff and the other Governors to help the Brook to continue to thrive for the benefit of our children.

Mrs Ahluwalia

Co-opted Governor

Hi I was born, brought up and educated in Crawley and I have been a governor at Brook Infant School and Nursery since September 2020. I am a shipping litigation lawyer in the City and the proud mother of two boys - one of whom is at University and the other is doing his A levels. I hope to bring my analytical skills to the Governing Board as well as my drive for high standards of equality, diversity and inclusion.

I am passionate about education and firmly believe that every child deserves to be taught by those who care and want to bring out the very best - I believe I have found that with the Headteacher and staff at Brook Infant, who have impressed me with their passion and care for each and every child at the school. It is a privilege to be part of such a hardworking community.

Mrs Carr

Co-opted (Support Staff) Governor

I am Mrs Carr and I joined the Governing Body as co-opted support staff governor in 2022.

I am the Learning mentor and ELSA (emotional literacy support assistant) at Brook Infant school and Nursery. I am committed to ensuring that the well-being of all children is at the heart of everything we do. As well as this, I lead the Woodland Wonders team and have a passion for outdoor education.

Mr Lennon

Co-Opted Governor

I am honoured to have been elected as co-opted Governor at this amazing school in January 2023.

Our family moved to Haywards Heath in 2019 and I have a son who is currently in Year 2. I have 25 years of leadership experience from the Retail industry, working in a wide variety of roles across London, Surrey, Kent and Sussex. As someone who has no historical direct link to the school, the passion, professionalism and dedication from all of the staff towards the overriding value of 'learning with love and laughter' of the children at Brook Infant School and Nursery is clear to see, and I hope my skills and experience will give the school and children the support and governance it deserves.

Mr Anderson

Co-Opted Governor

Hi, I am a co-opted governor having only joined December 2022. After seeing the school I knew I wanted to join this amazing team
