Special Educational Needs

We believe in offering all children access to a broad and balanced curriculum. Supporting children’s special educational needs (SEND) is integral to ensuring inclusion for all pupils. A child has special educational needs if he or she has a learning difficulty or disability that requires special educational provision to be made for them.

We aim to recognise and address needs as early as possible to ensure children experience success and have every opportunity to make good progress.

We believe that parents have a vital role to play in supporting their child’s education and so involve parents in decision making about their child and actively listen to their views. Please come and see your child’s class teacher or Mrs Sexton if you are at all concerned about your child’s learning.

West Sussex run an independent service for parents called Special Educational Needs and Disability Information and Advice Service (SENDIAS). You can contact them if you have concerns about your child’s SEND. They also produce many different leaflets which you can download below, or alternatively speak to Mrs Sexton for further information:

We are aware of the specific needs of dyslexic children and endeavour to provide a rich learning environment for all children that will also benefit those with specific learning difficulties.
